Notice of Nondisclosure Agreement
Anyone taking the registration examination is expressly prohibited from disclosing, publishing, reproducing, or transmitting the content of the examination, in whole or in part, in any form or by any means, verbal or written, electronic or mechanical, for any purpose. Beginning April 2, 2013, at each test site, every applicant will be required to enter into a nondisclosure agreement as a condition to sitting for the examination.
Survey of Registered Practitioners in Patent Cases
A survey letter will be mailed on or about January 31, 2013, to active registered practitioners whose registration numbers are between 30,000 and 34,999. Enclosed with the survey letter will be a blue Data Sheet, which practitioners must complete and return to OED within forty-five (45) days of the date the survey is mailed. The survey will be mailed to the official address on the roster. This is the last address for which the Director of Enrollment and Discipline received separate notice. See 37 C.F.R § 11.11(a). Practitioners must reply to the survey letter even if the current contact information is correct. Click here for more information.
Proposed USPTO Rules of Professional Conduct
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO or Office) has proposed to modernize the professional conduct rules that apply to attorneys and agents who practice before the USPTO. Click here for more information.
Examination for Registration to Practice in Patent Cases will be updated again in early April 2013 to Include New Provisions from the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA)
The United States Patent and Trademark Office will be updating the content of the registration examination on April 2, 2013. The updated examination will include provisions of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA) that will take effect March 16, 2013. Specifically, the updated examination will additionally cover the following topics: Derivation Proceedings and First-Inventor-to-File. Law School Clinic Certification Pilot
The Law School Clinic Certification Pilot program allows law students enrolled in a participating law school’s clinic program to practice Intellectual Property Law before the USPTO under the strict guidance of a Law School Faculty Clinic Supervisor. The program currently consists of students practicing in both patent and trademark law before the USPTO. The program is administered by the Office of Enrollment and Discipline. The Director of the Office of Enrollment and Discipline grants the law students limited recognition to practice before the USPTO. Click here for more information.
Persons Seeking Registration to Practice Before the USPTO
The following list contains the names of persons seeking registration to practice before the USPTO. Final approval for registration is subject to establishing to the satisfaction of the Director of the Office of Enrollment and Discipline that the person seeking registration is of good moral character and repute. 37 CFR § 11.7. Accordingly, any information tending to affect the eligibility of any of the following persons on moral, ethical or other grounds should be furnished to the Director of Enrollment and Discipline.
