Research Collaborations

caBIG® is continuously seeking, supporting, and implementing new models of collaborative cancer research and care to accelerate discovery. Presently, a key research focus of the cancer community is the pursuit of reliable “biomarkers,” such as gene expression patterns to help identify cancer subgroups. Such information helps speed the development of targeted therapies to enable physicians to individualize treatments, so there is great interest in working together to achieve these shared research goals.

This section details some of the key collaborations caBIG® is undertaking to connect the biomedical and research communities and advance shared research priorities.

Cancer Genetic Markers for Susceptibility (CGEMS)
Read about the caBIG® tools enabling the sharing of data from NCI’s CGEMS studies, which aim to identify common gene variations that influence cancer risks.

In Silico Research Centers
Learn about the caBIG® In Silico Research Centers of Excellence and their cancer research that leverages bioinformatics and data mining techniques to enable hypothesis-driven research.

Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatments (TARGET) Program
Find out how NCI TARGET program collaborators linked by caBIG® are using genomics technologies to rapidly identify therapeutic targets in childhood cancers.

Repository of Molecular Brain Neoplasia Data (REMBRANDT) Project
Read about the caBIG® capabilities providing researchers from the REMBRANDT Project with the bioinformatics framework and web portal needed to integrate clinical trials data to help find the cause of brain cancer.

Visually Accessible Rembrandt Images (VASARI)
Discover why the VASARI study uses medical images—which it manages through the National Biomedical Imaging Archive—to further cancer research.
