The Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of
Virginia presents essays about Jefferson and his life before,
during, and after his presidential terms. It additionally
provides biographical information about Martha Jefferson
and cabinet officials of each administration, as well as

and public papers.
Avalon
Project at Yale Law School: The Papers of Thomas Jefferson
The Avalon Project presents a selection of Jefferson's
papers, including transcriptions of his annual messages
to Congress, inaugural addresses, Indian addresses, and
miscellaneous papers.
Family Letters
Project: The Correspondence of Thomas Jefferson’s Family
Members
Sponsored by the Thomas Jefferson Foundation/Monticello,
the Family Letters Project is a companion to The
Papers of Thomas Jefferson: Retirement Series, published
by Princeton University Press. The site provides full text-searchable
transcriptions of a rich body of correspondence among members
of Jefferson’s immediate and extended family in the
years between 1809 and 1873, with a concentration on the
years between 1809 and 1835. These materials offer a unique
window into Jefferson’s domestic life and social milieu
during his retirement years.
Monticello
The Thomas Jefferson Foundation's Web site on Monticello,
Jefferson's home, provides a multimedia look at Monticello
with 3-D models of the house, narrated tours, special
animations, and an interactive map. The Research
and Collections section includes a link to the Thomas
Jefferson Encyclopedia, which contains hundreds of
articles by Thomas Jefferson Foundation staff members
and associated scholars. The Jefferson
Library's reference page provides guides, tutorials,
and research tools useful in exploring Jefferson's
life. The Education
section of the site presents study resources for
students and information for teachers such as lesson
plans.

comprehensive edition of the correspondence and papers of
Thomas Jefferson. This site contains the online indexes
to The Papers of Thomas Jefferson
and a small selection of primary-source documents with annotations.

The Internet Public Library's POTUS Web site provides background
information, election results, a list of cabinet members,
notable events, and some points of interest on each of the
presidents. Links to biographies, historical documents,
and other presidential sites are also included.

A Film by Ken Burns
The PBS Web site for Ken Burns’s historical documentary
includes classroom materials; images and transcripts of
some of Jefferson’s most important public and private
writings and other documents related to him; and transcripts
of interviews with twenty-four expert scholars, writers,
and interpreters of Jefferson’s life and legacy who
served as consultants or on-screen commentators for the
film.

A selection of manuscripts from the Coolidge Collection
of Thomas Jefferson manuscripts at the Massachusetts Historical
Society. This site presents digital images and searchable
transcriptions of Jefferson's Farm
Book and Garden
Book (his personal records relating to his farm holdings
and gardens), architectural
drawings, and a handwritten copy of the Declaration
of Independence. It also includes Jefferson's catalog
of books from 1783
and 1789.
Thomas Jefferson’s
Poplar Forest
Jefferson’s “other” home, in Bedford
County, Virginia, served as his vacation retreat throughout
his post-presidential retirement years. More than any other
place, it reflects his fully matured ideals of domestic
architecture and landscape design. Its Web site includes
extensive information about the buildings and grounds; current
restoration efforts and archaeological investigations; the
life lived there by Jefferson, his family, and the slave
community; and materials for educators and students.
