Kathleen Castro
Kathleen Castro, RN, MS, AOCN® is a Nurse Consultant in the Outcomes Research Branch of the Applied Research Program. Ms. Castro has been an oncology nurse for her entire career. Since 2005, she has served as an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist for the medical oncology and NCI transplant programs at the NIH Clinical Center. Previous to that position, Ms. Castro was a Transplant Coordinator for the NCI Experimental Transplant and Immunology Program at the NIH. Prior to her positions in the intramural program, she held positions at Lombardi Cancer Center, George Washington University Cancer Center and the University of Minnesota. Ms. Castro has served as an investigator on clinical intervention as well as natural history trials. Providing education and support to patients/caregivers and family members throughout the cancer trajectory has been her greatest area of interest during her nursing career. She has been an investigator on research teams looking at problem-solving strategies for patient/caregiver dyads as well as a co-facilitator for a national chronic graft-versus-host disease support group.
