Erin Kent
Erin Kent, Ph.D., M.S. is an Epidemiologist in the Outcomes Research Branch of the Applied Research Program. Prior to joining ARP, Dr. Kent was a Cancer Prevention Fellow (CPF) in the Office of Cancer Survivorship under Dr. Julia Rowland. As a CPF, Dr. Kent worked on a number of projects, including the Follow up Care Use among Survivors (FOCUS) Study, the Health, Eating, Activity and Lifestyle (HEAL) Study, and the Adolescent and Young Adult Health Outcomes and Patient Experiences (AYA HOPE) Study. She received her Ph.D. in Environmental Health Science and Policy with a concentration in Epidemiology and Public Health from the School of Social Ecology, University of California-Irvine, a M.S. in Animal Behavior from San Diego State University, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California-Berkeley. Her main research interests focus on follow-up care experiences, patient-provider communication, quality of life and psychosocial needs in cancer survivors. In addition to epidemiological methods, she has a background in mixed methods research and community-based participatory research, and has worked with diverse geographic and under-represented clinical groups. Dr. Kent's dissertation focused on socioeconomic disparities in cancer outcomes of adolescents and young adults. She is an organizing member of the DCCPS Mixed Methods Interest Group and a planning member of the NIH-wide MOMDADDOCS parent mentoring program. Erin's primary responsibilities in ORB are with the SEER-Medicare Health Outcomes Survey (SEER-MHOS) linked database.
