Scientists and Subjects: An on-line Seminar on the Ethics of Research with Human Subjects - The Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions, Indiana University conducted a course for several years. The Seminar has been discontinued but many on-llne resources remain available at this site.
Program on Ethical Issues in International Health Research - Harvard School of Public Health. This program is directed to any individual or organization who will fund, approve, conduct, or collaborate in health research, providing an opportunity to explore ethical issues in international health care through lectures, discussions, and case analysis.
Valid Consent/Refusal: A Core Competency for Research - This program, headed by Dr. Susan Goold at University of Michigan is designed to develop, implement and evaluate a course on improving knowledge and skills of investigators for obtaining consent. It uses didactic methods, simulated patients/subjects in various scenarios, and randomized controlled evaluation. It is designed to be transportable to other institutions.

Fellowship Training in the Department of Bioethics - Pre doctoral and Postdoctoral fellowships are available. Fellows participate in the activities and intellectual life of the department, and study ethical issues related to the conduct of research, clinical practice, and health policy. Fellows will conduct their research under the guidance of the senior faculty, participate in weekly bioethics seminars, case conferences, ethics consultations, and IRB deliberations, and have access to multiple educational opportunities at NIH.
Training in the Responsible Conduct of Research - This OER site includes research policies and links to educational programs in the responsible conduct of research.
Ethical and Regulatory Aspects of Clinical Research – This course is organized by the NIH Department of Bioethics and is available live and/or on video or podcast in real time or archived. The course introduces a systematic framework for evaluating the ethics of a clinical research protocol., addresses how to apply appropriate codes, regulations, and other documents governing the ethical conduct of human subject research to one’s own research,. discusses controversial issues relating to human subject research, including Phase 1 research, randomization, children in research, international research, etc,. identifies the critical elements of informed consent and strategies for implementing informed consent for clinical research,. describes the purpose, function, and challenges of IRBs, and addresses the experience of human subjects who have participated in research protocols. Generally, the course is offered twice annually.
American College of Physicians’ Nicholas E. Davies Memorial Scholar Award for Scholarly Activities in the Humanities and History of
Medicine: This award is given to scholars who have made notable contributions in the fields of history, literature, philosophy and ethics. American Lung Association Independent Investigator Awards Social-Behavioral Research Grant: This is a $40,000 a year grant for junior investigators working on epidemiological and behavioral studies related to lung health. American Roentgen Ray Society Leonard Berlin Scholarship in Medical Professionalism: This is a scholarship for certified radiologists to study areas related to medical ethics, medico-legal principles, patient accountability, sensitivity to patient diversity and/or other topics encompassing medical professionalism. Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science (UNESCO): Given every 2 years, this Prize is awarded for excellence in the field of ethics in science. The Prize includes a gold medal of Avicenna, $10,000, and a one-week academic visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, which includes giving academic talks.
Catherine Pouget Award for Research on the Quality of Life: An annual award for research in the improvement of the quality of life of the terminally ill.
Greenwall Foundation:: Provides funding for physicians, lawyers, philosophers, theologians and other professionals to address bioethics issues, both in the clinic and in policymaking. Greenwall focuses on five programs: (1) research and project grants; (2) The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program; (3) The Greenwall Fellowship Program in Bioethics and Health Policy; (4) The Oscar M Ruebhausen Visiting Professorship; and (5) The Kornfeld Program in Bioethics and Patient Care. Grenvik Family Award for Ethics--Critical Care Medicine: Given annually to a Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) member who has made significant contributions to the study of ethics in critical care.

American Medical Association Medical Ethics Fellowship and Visiting Scholar Program: A jointly sponsored program between the AMA and the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Boston University Health Law and Bioethics Fellowship: This fellowship is for BU MPH and dual-degree students and provides funding for one to two semesters of tuition.
The Brookdale Foundation Leadership in Aging Fellowship: This fellowship is for promising young investigators in the field of aging.
Cleveland Clinic Fellowship in Advanced Bioethics (CFAB): The CFAB is a two-year, full-time program to train professionals with terminal degrees in medicine, philosophy, nursing, social work, religious studies, law, etc. in the practice of clinical and academic bioethics.
Creighton University Center for Health Policy and Ethics Fellowship: This fellowship is a three to six month fellowship for established bioethicists.
Duke Institute For Genome Sciences & Policy: Law and Biosciences Fellowship Program: This is a two-year fellowship for individuals interested in an academic or policy career working on issues in science and society, with a particular interest in the legal, ethical, and social implications of the biosciences.
Harvard Faculty Fellowship in Ethics: This fellowship is intended for promising early career scholars. Fellows participate in weekly seminars and also participate in courses, colloquia, curricular development, collaborative research, study groups, casewriting workshops, and clinical programs. Faculty Fellows devote most of their time to scholarship in ethics.
Harvard Law School Petrie-Flom Academic Fellowship: There are two fellowship opportunities. The academic fellowship is a two year, $60,000 per year fellowship for promising young scholars in the fields of health law policy, biotechnology or bioethics. The student fellowship is to support graduate students from Harvard University for research in topics at the intersection of health law and policy.
The NIH Clinical Center Department of Bioethics Fellowship Opportunities: The Clinical Center supports both pre- and post-doctoral fellowships. Fellows participate in the ‘intellectual life’ of the department and conduct research on the ethics of clinical research, clinical practice and health policy.
Parker B. Francis Fellowship in Pulmonary Research: This fellowship is intended for scholars transitioning from post-doctoral training to independent investigator. The fellowship funds research in basic science, clinical care and public health research, and also encourages research in the bioethical aspects of pulmonary medicine or critical care.

Princeton University Harold T. Shapiro Postdoctoral Fellowship in Bioethics: This is a one-year fellowship that supports outstanding scholars studying ethical issues related to developments in medicine and the biological sciences.
Princeton University Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellowship: This is a one year fellowship that supports outstanding scholars studying ethical issues related to developments in medicine and the biological sciences.
Seattle Children's Hospital Pediatric Clinical Bioethics Fellowship: This is a two-year fellowship that trains physicians in pediatric clinical and research ethics.
Stanford University Law School Center for Law and Biosciences Fellowship
The University of Chicago Master's Degree Fellowship/Part-time Fellowship: This is a two-year fellowship for primary care physicians who plan an academic career with a focus on health policy and clinical medical ethics.
The University of Chicago Surgical Ethics Fellowship: This includes both a one-year full-time and part-time fellowship program in surgical ethics. These fellowships are designed to train surgeons for academic careers in clinical surgery and surgical ethics.
