Education & Workforce Development

Strengthening our economy starts in our classrooms and extends into our workplaces. By improving the delivery and alignment of early childhood education, K-12 education, and postsecondary education, we can better prepare Ohioans to compete in a global economy.  Additionally, by investing in a workforce development system that meets the needs of high-growth, regional industries, we can attract new employers to our state. For these reasons, I will continue to fight to ensure that all Ohioans have access to high-quality, affordable education and the training they need for success in the workforce.

FREMONT - U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown’s 88-county roundtable tour stopped at Terra Community College on Friday, and Brown was surprised by one thing: all the people who came to watch him talk with local business leaders and elected officials.

“There’s a lot of interest,” said Brown, a Cleveland Democrat who was elected to his second term as senator in November.

Brown said the stops usually focus on jobs, and this stop was no exception, as community leaders told him about stagnant wages and increasing expenses. Brown asked Fremont Mayor Jim Ellis how water rates now compared to 10 years ago.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) joined students at Ohio University today to discuss efforts to keep college affordable for all Ohioans. Earlier this year, student loan debt outpaced credit card debt, soaring to more than $1 trillion.

“Now more than ever, a college degree is the key to good-paying jobs and a secure future,” Brown said. “But increasingly high debt means fewer students will be able to buy a home, start a business, or continue on to graduate school.
