Programs for Medical and Dental Students at the NIH

As a medical or dental student you may be at the NIH to participate in

Although clinical and research training should be your first priority during your stay at the NIH, we encourage you to find the time to participate in career development activities and reach out to the community around you.

Your primary training needs while you are at the NIH will be met by the NIH Office of Clinical Research Training and Medical Education (OCRTME).  The NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) would also like to invite you to participate in its activities.

The OITE works with the Training Offices in the NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) to ensure that the training experience is as rewarding as possible.  We aim to help all NIH trainees become creative leaders in the biomedical research community.  In addition to participating in the training activities offered by OCRTME and your IC, please be certain to take advantage of OITE career and professional development activities and the OITE Career Services Center.

Programs that you might find of particular interest include

  • courses aimed at improving your basic science writing skills and drafting a scientific manuscript,
  • scientific speaking workshops, and
  • leadership and management offerings.
