U.S. Army physician Major Walter Reed was born September 13, 1851. Reed led the team that discovered that mosquitoes transmit yellow fever. He died November 22, 1902 and is buried in section 3 at Arlington National Cemetery. Walter Reed General Hospital was named in his honor in 1909.
