Former DC Transportation Official Ordered to Pay $100,000 In Bribery Case

Summary

On September 30, Wilhelm DerMinassian, the former Associate Director of the District of Columbia Department of Transportation’s Traffic Services Administration was sentenced to 30 months in prison and ordered to pay $100,000 in fines and restitution for receiving gratuities in connection with subverting the competitive process on 5–year, $17.5 million federally funded contract. In April 2005, DerMinassian pled guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of receiving gratuities. The OIG investigation disclosed the official abused his position and his authority to solicit and receive more than $20,000 in cash and various items, including hotel rooms and SUV rentals.
