Indiana Contractor to Pay $2.4 Million Civil Settlement for Making False Statements to the FTA

Summary

On January 10, 2007, Johnson Controls, Inc., (JCI) agreed in U.S. District Court in Gary, Indiana to pay the FTA $2.4 million to settle a civil claim of making false statements involving federal transit funds. JCI conspired with the Gary Public Transit Corporation (GPTC) to submit false statements in order to obtain a $1.2 million energy-savings contract at GPTC's maintenance facility. The company cooperated with the investigation and agreed to take remedial measures.
