  • A Message from Labor and Industries Commissioner Brad Avakian
    Commissioner Brad Avakian
The latest edition of the Commissioner's Message from Oregon Labor and Industries Commissioner Brad Avakian is
now available online.  The Commissioner is excited about the career and technical education partnership now in place between the Mt. Angel and Silver Falls School Districts, setting an example for others throughout Oregon.  Also, the Oregon Council on Civil Rights is planning its second Community Forum on Pay Equity and BOLI's 28th Annual Employment Law Conference is almost here.

  • Oregon Council on Civil Rights wants your input

OCCR members want to hear from community members about their experiences with pay inequity and to gather feedback on the various models the Council has been researching to end pay inequity.  Summaries of the approaches taken in Sweden, Quebec, Ontario, Switzerland, and Canada’s federal law are available on the OCCR website, along with a link to an online input tool.

A recent report finds the wage gap is hurting women throughout Oregon, and that gender and race both drive pay disparity.  Avakian and OCCR are leading the charge to tackle this long-running issue, preparing to offer up a state action plan later this year that can serve as a model for other jurisdictions.

The notice to workers and information about filing claims is available on the Typhoon Resolution Fund page.

More information about the settlement is available at BOLI News Central.

BOLI and Commissioner Avakian oversee several critical committees dealing with workforce development, civil rights, and prevailing wage rate law.

The Oregon Council on Civil Rights (OCCR) advises the Commissioner and other government agencies regarding civil rights issues and advocates for better education about, and enforcement of, civil rights in Oregon.

For All Oregonians
