Why Should You Be an NCIS Special Agent?
NCIS Special Agent is one of the most challenging and fulfilling careers in law enforcement.
NCIS Special Agents gain broad law enforcement experience and are given responsibility early on in their careers.
World travel and life abroad - in locations such as Italy, Japan, England, Bahrain and aboard a ship - is part of the NCIS Special Agent experience.
NCIS is an ideal place to pursue work in law enforcement specialties such as cyber investigations, forensic science, threat assessment analysis, and economic crimes.
NCIS provides other professional opportunities as well, including the Foreign Area Officer Program and the Forensic Consultant career path.
NCIS provides extensive training for Special Agents from the NCIS Basic Agent Course held at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) to in-service training on subjects ranging from death investigations to crime scene processing, domestic security, unarmed self-defense, and critical incident stress debriefing to multi-month programs on technical surveillance countermeasures, polygraph, procurement fraud, protective service, and year-long graduate programs in forensic science, foreign counterintelligence, and language studies.
NCIS Special Agents are armed federal law enforcement officers.
NCIS Special Agents receive good pay and benefits, including eligibility for Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP)
Are You Qualified to be an NCIS Special Agent?
You must not have reached 37 years of age (exceptions are preference eligible veterans and those currently covered under the 6C Federal Law Enforcement retirement system).
You must have an accredited baccalaureate degree.
You must have vision correctable to 20/20 with normal color vision.
You must be a U.S.-born or naturalized U.S. citizen.
You must pass a background suitability screening.
You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
You must have a valid driver's license.
Applicants are not required to enlist in the Navy or Marine Corps or have preexisting military or law enforcement experience, though such experience is often desirable. In addition to the Special Agent position, NCIS offers a broad range of Professional and Support Careers.
