Mission
The NCIS mission is to investigate and defeat criminal, terrorist, and foreign intelligence threats to the United States Navy and Marine Corps-ashore, afloat, and in cyberspace.
Automatic Declassification Program 

 

The Department of the Navy (DON) Automatic Declassification Review Program conducts security declassification reviews in accordance with Executive Order (E.O.) 13526, "Classified National Security Information," of 29 December 2009. The provisions of E.O. 13526 continue to direct the automatic declassification of information contained in records of permanent historical value once they reach 25 years of age, unless reviewed and exempted. The review is conducted only at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), College Park, MD; the Washington National Records Center (WNRC), Suitland, MD; and the Naval Historical and Heritage Command (NHHC), Washington Navy Yard, DC.
