Budget & Appropriations

As a federal agency, the NICHD is required to submit a justification for its overall budget to the congress each fiscal year. The congressional budget justification includes contextual information, such as science advances, stories of discovery, and initiatives, that offers further explanation of Institute goals and necessary funding levels.

In addition, the NICHD director testifies, either in person or by submitting a statement, before the appropriations committee to provide additional information and answer questions. The NICHD is also called to testify, at the request of congress, on various topics.

The Institute is also called upon to report to various congressional committees and subcommittees on its activities.
