Visitors may make photocopies free of charge. Please note that non-NIEHS users are restricted to making copies of only five articles or chapters per day.

Security Concerns

US Environmental Protection Agency and US Department of Health and Human Services employees are exempt from the following policy and will be admitted upon showing a government ID. Due to heightened security, all visitors to the library must have approval in advance.

While NIEHS has a liberal visitation policy, use of the library by non-NIEHS employees is a privilege that is subject to restrictions imposed by NIEHS.

The current Level 3 security requires that library visitors:

  • Have an official purpose
  • Are approved and expected by a "host" employee
  • Show two types of identification at the security gate
  • May have their vehicles searched

To receive approval to use the library, submit a letter written by your organization's Chief Executive Officer (or other comparable authority) requesting that the named employee(s) be granted the privilege of using the NIEHS Library's collection.

Address and mail the letter to:

Stephanie Holmgren, M.S.L.S., M.B.A.

Alternatively, visitors may bring such a letter with them the first time they visit the library.
