The CIO Council is chaired by Jeffrey Zients, the Deputy Director for Management at OMB.
Steve VanRoekel, the Federal Chief Information Officer, acts as Director of the Council and leads its activities on behalf of the Chairperson.
The CIO Council, from among its members, elects a Vice-Chairperson of the Council. The Vice-Chairperson is an agency CIO who serves for two consecutive one-year terms. That position is currently held by Richard Spires, the CIO at the Department of Homeland Security.
