SummaryCorrespondence, memoranda, orders, reports, offical and unofficial policy papers, draft legislation, drafts of writings, clippings, and printed matter relating to Hussey's work with the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers (SCAP) Government Section during the Allied occupation of Japan following World War II and to the efforts of the Allies to reorganize Japanese government and society. The files contain detailed information on nearly every aspect of postwar Japan, especially the drafting of the Japanese constitution (Kenpō), the reorganization of the Diet (Kokkai), and policy proposals in the areas of labor, civil rights, the economy, labor, prostitution, and the Imperial household. Also includes some personal papers and correspondence of Hussey relating to his interests in civil rights and in the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, and his various writings.
Correspondents include George Atcheson, Roger N. Baldwin, McGeorge Bundy, James F. Byrnes, Charles Louis Kades, Douglas MacArthur, Milo Rowell, Ray Sakakibara, Robert Edward Ward, Courtney Whitney, and Japanese government officials.
