Class Description

Who should take PubMed for Trainers?

The class is intended specifically for those who train, or will train, others to use PubMed. This class could be for you if you teach PubMed to large groups, small groups, or one-on-one training. We look forward to lively discussions related to PubMed searching and instruction.

What should I expect from the PubMed® for Trainers class?

Enhance your knowledge of PubMed with the 15-hour PubMed for Trainers class. During the class, you can expect to:

  • Fill any gaps in general knowledge you might have about MEDLINE and PubMed.
  • Recognize what the National Library of Medicine considers good background information.
  • Improve your PubMed search technique.
  • Increase your ability to develop customized PubMed training.

What are the PubMed for Trainers class objectives?

For current and future PubMed trainers to discover and develop:

  1. Enhance your knowledge of the MEDLINE database
  2. Improve your ability to analyze and implement Medical Subject Headings (MeSH)
  3. Employ the features and functions of PubMed for use in searching and training
  4. Discuss instruction techniques with fellow trainers
  5. Experience peer collaboration and learning

How much time do I need to devote to the PubMed for Trainers class?

PubMed for Trainers is held in 4 sessions, 3 online sessions and 1 in person session. The class is eligible for 15 hours of MLA CE credit. This hands-on course consists of lectures, individual exercises, group work and discussions in four sessions, with approximately 2-3 hours of independent work to be done outside of class time. NLM or NTC trainers will deliver the lectures and facilitate discussions.
