SEVIS II
The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) is in the process of developing the next generation of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). The new system, known as SEVIS II, will address some issues in the current SEVIS and be easier to use. SEVIS II will continue to serve the same basic purpose as SEVIS while introducing new functionality to make improvements.

This document presents the high level vision for the development of SEVIS II. It is intended to provide all stakeholders with essential information to enable them to understand the purpose and history of SEVIS, the need for SEVIS II, and how SEVP envisions success for the project.

In August 2011, SEVP and Department of State sponsored a 4-day workshop to solicit input from school and sponsor officials on the transition to SEVIS II. The purpose of this report is to summarize the feedback and ideas collected from participants throughout the event. It provides valuable information that SEVP can use, while continuing to gather input from stakeholders, to begin addressing issues, and communicate with the stakeholder community.

SEVP has announced a monthly webinar series focusing on SEVIS II updates and demonstrations. The webinars are primarily intended for F/M designated school officials. Each free session can accommodate up to 500 participants and registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Each unique session will focus on a different SEVIS II function. Additionally, SEVP’s SEVIS II team will provide the latest news and announcements, as well as answer questions from webinar participants. Each session will be recorded and be made available for download within one week.

During SEVP’s outreach efforts, a number of designated school officials have expressed some anxieties and concerns regarding SEVIS II. We have also identified some misconceptions about SEVIS II and its functionality. This document addresses those issues. We have used actual questions gathered during our outreach activities and present them here as asked by a DSO.
