How can we harness advances in neuroscience to promote changes in cancer-related behaviors and cancer prevention? Advances in our understanding of neurobiology, coupled with technological advances in brain imaging, offer unprecedented opportunities to explore the neural substrates of decision-making and behavior. With the proper foundational research, this work could potentially be translated into cognitive training interventions to increase behavioral control among individuals struggling with cancer risk behaviors, such as obesity and tobacco use.
