IT Training offers courses and seminars that enable users to make efficient and effective use of computers, networks, and information systems in their work at NIH. The training program is open to NIH employees and to all users of CIT computing facilities. IT Training is provided free of charge with the exception of specific training by outside consultants. Remote class attendance can be arranged for students in locations outside the Metro Washington, DC area. Descriptions of courses, as well as information on the intended audience, can be found on the CIT Training website.

Customer Benefits

The NIH community can take advantage of the many courses and seminars that are offered through the IT Training service without charge. Note: There are a small number of courses that do have a charge.

Customer Market

Depending on the application, for example - QVR Introduction, HHS will be permitted to attend if their OPDIV subscribes to the service.

Q: Attendance for CIT Training.


  • Because space is limited, students who cannot attend a class for which they have been enrolled must notify the Training Program at 301-594-6248, so another student can take their place. 
  • Students who are on a wait list may attempt to get into the class as a standby. Seats left empty 10 minutes into a class will be considered available. 
  • Students who attend class and successfully complete any required assignments will receive completion certificates. 
  • Students need to bring their NIH badge with them to check in.


Q.  Registration for CIT Training.



  • Most students apply via the website Students can also register by calling the CIT Training Program at 301-594-6248.
  • Supervisor approval should be obtained before registering.
  • Applications may be submitted any time after the courses are announced. Students will be accepted as long as there is space in the class.
  • Any applicant who cannot be accepted because a course is filled or who applies for a course after it has taken place will be placed on a waiting list.
  • Applicants who apply via the Web will be sent an email confirmation. Those who register by phone can usually be given their status during the initial call. Also, within two days, the status of the application will be posted on the Web.


Q: Is there a cost to attend CIT Training seminars?


A: Most CIT Computer Training courses are free of charge to the NIH Community. Please make note when selecting courses to check the tuition section. If you are from another HHS operating division, please contact CIT Training.


Q: I did not register, can I still attend?


A: Yes. Students may attempt to get into the class as a walk-in (standby). Seats left empty 10 minutes into a class will be considered available.
