Investing in Discovery: National Institute of General Medical Sciences Strategic Plan

The NIGMS Strategic Plan is the result of a comprehensive consultation process that began in the fall of 2006 and solicited broad input from scientists, policymakers, scientific and professional societies, and the public.

NIGMS staff worked at length to distill this input into a draft strategic plan, which was posted on the NIGMS Web site for public comment in September 2007. The final strategic plan was issued in January 2008. Although the plan was originally envisioned as a 5-year guide, it is still current. In light of recent and significant programmatic and leadership changes, we expect to begin a new strategic planning process in 2014.
