Administrative Supplements for Collaborative Science (SCS)

The Administrative Supplements for Collaborative Science (SCS) program is designed to provide a rapid and flexible mechanism to enable NIGMS grantees to form new collaborations that bring novel approaches and ideas to the aims of the funded grant. PIs funded by an NIGMS R01 or R37 grant that has at least 18 months of active funding at the time of the receipt date deadline are eligible to apply. Funding may be requested for multiple years, up to the end of the project period for the NIGMS grant. The research supported by the supplement MUST be within the scope, and support the aims, of the parent grant.

Collaborations must be newly formed, i.e., there cannot be a substantial history of collaboration in the past 3 years. All collaborators must contribute significant intellectual input to the project, in addition to any technical and/or resource contributions.

Supplement requests will be evaluated administratively by NIGMS staff. Staff will consider the significance of the proposed work and its relationship to the parent grant, the novelty of the collaborative activities, the commitment and extent of the intellectual involvement of all collaborators, the soundness of the experimental design and scope of the work, the need for the supplement in order to accomplish the goals, the expertise of the PI and collaborators and the magnitude of other support available to them.

See the announcements at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-GM-11-105.html and http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-GM-11-117.html for complete details regarding eligibility, deadlines and application procedures. Be sure to contact your NIGMS program director prior to applying to discuss the suitability of your proposed project for the SCS program.

Effective February 1, 2012, applicants have the option of submitting an administrative supplement application electronically through Grants.gov (see PA-12-100), or via the eRA Commons (see NOT-OD-12-024). While Grants.gov submission is being piloted, applicants may also submit on paper.
