Helping Veterans Find Jobs
September 10, 2012
Congress returned to Washington on Monday. The Veterans Job Corps Act of 2012 was at the top of the Senate agenda. The measure would provide job-training opportunities for the more than 225,000 unemployed post-9/11 veterans.
The legislation would:
- Help hire qualified veterans as police officers, firefighters and other first responders. (About 85 percent of law enforcement agencies were forced to reduce their budgets in the past year, according to a 2011 survey by the International Association of Chiefs of Police.)
- Train and hire veterans to help restore and protect our national, state, and tribal forests, our parks, our coastal areas, wildlife refuges, and VA cemeteries.
