Forecast Discussion: Forecast Discussion for February 15th through 20th, 2013: A transition take places during the forecast period as the longstanding West Coast ridge finally weakens over the weekend and moves eastward out of the area as a cold upper level trough moves in from the Gulf of Alaska late in the forecast period. Sunny skies, above normal temperatures and limited atmospheric mixing will give way to increased cloudiness, colder temperatures along with increased atmospheric mixing and even a chance of showers by the end of the forecast period. For most areas, these changes should have little effect on air quality with AQIs remaining in the GOOD air quality category. The exception is the SLV where residential wood smoke should continue to produce PM2.5 AQIs mostly in the MODERATE air quality category with occasional increases into the UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS category in local areas where wood burning is common. However, applicable air quality standards for PM2.5 are not expected to be exceeded. |
