Diversity

I'm not just a nurse. I'm serving those who have unselfishly served our country. Amy, VA RN.

the country.

The Veterans Health Administration of Department of Veterans Affairs is one of the largest employers of women in the Federal government, and strives to employ a highly diverse workforce that is representative of the Nation's diversity.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we conduct an annual analysis of the workforce to identify and eliminate any barriers to full participation of all diverse groups in the workforce.

Diversity also refers to our initiatives that ensure everyone's differences are valued and respected. In turn, these initiatives bring about an inclusive, productive work environment that drives our organizational growth and fuels employees' potential.

The Under Secretary for Health's Diversity and Inclusion Board advises the Under Secretary for Health and key VA senior management on issues of diversity within the workplace and the health care environment as a whole. With the goal of ensuring VA as an employer of choice and a provider of high quality and culturally competent care, the Board seeks to:

  • Create a diverse, high-performing workforce that reflects the communities we serve by identifying and eliminating barriers to equal opportunity
  • Cultivate an inclusive workplace that enables full participation through strategic outreach and retention
  • Promote accountability, education, and communication on diversity and inclusion matters with VA employees, leaders, and stakeholders to facilitate outstanding service to Veterans
