Medical College receives grant for heart failure research

Scientists from the Medical College of Wisconsin and Froedtert Hospital received a 1-year, $50,000 grant to study a type of heart failure and to identify indicators that might allow clinicians to diagnose and treat earlier such cases.

The grant is from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin, which is part of a national consortium of top medical research institutions.

The primary investigator is Dr. Jennifer Strande, assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine at the Medical Collage and a cardiologist at Froedtert Hospital, both in Wauwatosa.

The focus of the work will be to identify biomarkers that contribute to cardiac dysfunction in certain patients. The research potentially would allow clinicians to diagnose and intervene before irreversible cardiac damage occurs.
