  • SSA is expanding the services available through “my Social Security account”, a personalized online account that people can use during their working years and while they are receiving benefits. Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income recipients can now access their benefit verification letter, payment history and earnings record.  Social Security beneficiaries also can change their address and start or change direct deposit information online.

  • The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has launched a new initiative called Acceptable Clinical Evidence (ACE) that could eliminate in-person medical examination for some Veterans. This would shorten the time it takes to process disability compensation claims. The initiative is part of a five-year transformation plan to eliminate the claims backlog and process all claims within 125 days by 2015.

  • The DDP Small Grant Program is a $10,000, one-year stipend program for graduate students to conduct supervised, independent research on improving the disability determination processes for Social Security’s two disability programs. Policy Research, Inc. has announced the third round of this federally funded stipend program. Application deadline is March 1, 2013.
