    Since the International Code Council was formed more than a decade ago, it has become the hallmark professional Membership association dedicated to providing its Members and building industry professionals with the tools they need to ensure the public's safety in the built environment. ICC looks forward to working with our Members and partnering with others to continue to advance this critical mission in the years to come.

     

    March 4, 2013 | ICC and its Members Focus on the Future of Plumbing Safety. Historically, plumbing has played a vital role in the development of civilization and the public’s health overall. World Plumbing Day is an international event on March 11. Read more here

    March, 4 2013 | Managed Scholarship Deadlines Near. The Richard “Dick” Gecoma Scholarship and the Building Official Associating of South Carolina Scholarship deadlines are March 15 and April 15, respectively. The two Managed Scholarships are funded solely by the sponsoring ICC Chapters.

    March 4, 2013 | American Lumber Standard Committee Holds Hearing. The board reviewed and considered the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau proposal for the full in-grade assigned design values submission for southern pine and six letters concerning the submission.

    March 1, 2013 | 2013 OBOA/FBOA Joint Conference. The Ohio Building Officials Association and Five County Building Officials Association meeting March 10, 11 and 12 in Akron includes code education and special events along with representatives from ICC, ICC Region V and the Ohio Board of Building Standards.     March 1, 2013 | Washington, D.C. Names IAS as Preferred Accreditation Body. To ensure inspection agencies are qualified to perform third-party inspections in the nation’s capital they must demonstrate compliance with the Construction Codes and the Procedure Manual. To perform third-party inspections, applicants accredited by the International Accreditation Service only need to provide evidence of a current IAS accreditation.

    March 1, 2013 | International Code Council Marks Another 10 Year Milestone: Commitment to Members, Strategic Partners and Code Development. Ten years ago three regional code organizations began operating as one consolidated association: the International Code Council. It was a monumental change in the industry.

    Feb. 28, 2013 | Code Development Process for the Future Prepares for Debut. cdp ACCESS, an online initiative aimed to increase participation in the International Code Council code development process, is being prepared for testing. The new process will allow for in-person and online participation while maintaining the high level of integrity ICC’s code development process is known for. 

    Feb. 28, 2013 | ICC 2013 Call for Presentations. The Code Council is seeking proposals from anyone interested in presenting to an audience of code officials, inspectors, plans examiners, fire officials, city managers, engineers, architects, and others related to the building safety industry. Deadline for submissions is March 22.

    Feb. 28, 2013 | ICC Approves Deletion of IBC Chapter 34 in Favor of Reference to the IEBC. The ICC Board supported the Membership's recommendation and upheld action taken at the 2012 Public Comment Hearing in Portland on Code Change G201-12 that proposed the deletion of Chapter 34 of the International Building Code in favor of a reference to the International Existing Building Code. The IEBC, in Chapters 4 (Prescriptive Compliance Method) and 14 (Performance Compliance Methods), includes the same provisions that are in Chapter 34 of the IBC. Click here to read more.

    Feb. 26, 2013 | ICC Supports Need for Safety Incentive. ICC, along with several associations, is urging Congress to reintroduce and pass the Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act to provide incentives to make buildings safer. The call to action notes the recent Brazil tragedy and the Feb. 20, 10th anniversary of the Station nightclub fire.

    Feb. 26, 2013 | Interim Guidance for ICC Members on Community Development Block Grant Funding. ICC has been working with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development so code officials and HUD administrators recognize that CDBG funding may be used for building code administration. A joint webinar will be announced soon.

    Feb. 25, 2013 | Celebrate and Prepare for Building Safety Month. Building Safety Month will be celebrated by ICC Members and communities in May. The theme for the month is "Code Officials Keep You Safe." Each week of Building Safety Month spotlights a specific area of building safety: Fire Safety and Awareness; Disaster Safety and Mitigation; Backyard Recreation and Pool Safety; and Energy and Green Building.     Feb. 21, 2013 | Sponsored Scholarships Available April 29. Children of code enforcement agency personnel whose jurisdictional authority is an active ICC Governmental Member have the opportunity to apply for five Sponsored Scholarships. Only one application is needed to apply for all the scholarships. Deadline for submissions is June 28.  

    Feb. 20, 2013 | 2013 Group B Committee Action Hearings Schedule Available. The Committee Action Hearings are April 21-30 at the Sheraton Dallas Downtown Hotel.  ICC Members and other building safety professionals will discuss, debate and take action on about 2,000 code changes.

    Jan. 29, 2013 | ICC Global Members to Benefit from New Partnership with IAS. Code Council Members who reside and work outside of the U.S. will be better served by the association’s recent move of its Global Services Division to the International Accreditation Service, an ICC subsidiary. IAS works with regulatory agencies as well as public and private industry in 26 countries around the world.

    Jan. 25, 2013 | Sandy to Boost Construction Jobs as Rebuilding Spurred. In the most adverse way you'd ever want to see positive growth, demand for construction workers is likely to receive a boost as homeowners in coastal areas of New York and New Jersey rebuild after their properties were devastated by flooding and heavy winds. An estimated 95,000 damaged homes—with a value of $40 billion—located in the coastal areas hit hardest by Sandy are expected to repair and rebuild. The total reconstruction effort nets out to around a $10–$15 billion loss for the economy as a whole; all coming about as U.S. construction employment is still recovering from the last recession, with about 2.2 million fewer jobs today than the 2007 peak of 7.7 million workers.

    Jan. 25, 2013 | ICC, APA Team Publish IRC Lateral Bracing Guide.
    A new illustrated book, co-published by the International Code Council and APA—The Engineered Wood Association, provides an explanation of the lateral bracing provisions of the 2012 International Residential Code (IRC). The Guide to the 2012 IRC Wood Wall Bracing Provisions, the third edition in the series, details the correct application of the code-bracing requirements, explores the history and theory behind wall bracing, and provides real-world bracing examples. The book is now available in hardcopy and digital format.

    ICC A117.1-2009 STANDARD AND  COMMENTARY (ACCESSIBLE AND USABLE BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES)

    ICC A117.1-2009 STANDARD AND COMMENTARY (ACCESSIBLE AND USABLE BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES) contains the full text of the standard ICC A117.1-2009: Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, including tables and figures, followed by the corresponding commentary for each section. The commentary and accompanying figures explain the background and intent of the requirements and suggest the most effective method of application. Potential consequences of not following the provisions of the standard are also discussed.

    ICC 700-2012 NATIONAL GREEN BUILDING STANDARD™ (NGBS™) is the only ANSI-approved standard for sustainable residential construction. A collaborative effort between NAHB and ICC, NGBS outlines the green practices that can be incorporated into new homes, including multifamily buildings, as well as home remodeling and additions, hotels and dormitories, and residential land developments.

    SOILS, EARTHWORK, AND FOUNDATIONS: A PRACTICAL APPROACH, BASED ON 2012 IRC® AND IBC® bridges the worlds of geotechnical engineering and foundation design, to construction activities and inspections dealing with soil conditions and building foundations. The book provides illustrations to assist in the understanding of the principles involved in foundations, guidelines for when to call on a geotechnical or foundation design engineer, and tips for effectively communicating with geotechnical and structural professionals.

    STRUCTURAL LOADS: 2012 IBC and ASCE/SEI 7-10 is exclusively devoted to the determination of structural loads. Critical provisions for structural loads are organized in comprehensive flowcharts that guide readers through the load requirements. The book includes numerous design examples and a complete Solutions Manual as an online bonus. It is released with the cooperation of the American Society of Civil Engineers' Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) and the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA).

    Disaster Network

    ICC Disaster Response Network. As you know, in the wake of a natural disaster the definition of normal goes out the window. Once a disaster hits, there are many emergency procedures that must be put in place. It's only after these immediate needs have been taken care of that the focus on recovery and rebuilding can really begin. You can request a list of volunteers who can help you with your post-disaster inspection efforts.

    Task Force Promotes Preparedness, Provides Guidance, Coordinates Housing Resources for Communities. The National Disaster Housing Task Force, composed of Federal agency partners, provides interagency coordination to develop plans, procedures and guidelines for state and local authorities use to enhance preparedness and program knowledge and provides other tools for communities. 

    Test Your Disaster Knowledge. Depending on where you live, some sort of severe weather likely has affected your life this year and cost you money.

    The Architect's Role in Disaster. Natural disasters are unpreventable, not unpredictable: The U.S. sustains about 10 a year.

    Disaster Support Hotline. ICC Member Jurisdictions in need of assistance during their rebuilding efforts can call the Code Council's DISASTER SUPPORT HOTLINE at 888-422-7233 (ext. 5222).

    ICC Partners with MBI on Disaster Relief. ICC and the Modular Building Institute have teamed up to assist Building and Fire Officials in tornado-stricken states that need temporary office space.

    ATC-45 Webinar. ICC and Applied Technology Council are offering a recorded webinar on the ATC-45 Field Manual: Safety Evaluation of Buildings after Wind Storms and Floods to assist in jurisdictions' recovery efforts.

    Reduce Your Hurricane Risk This Season. June marks the start of hurricane season and extra concerns this year based on an above-average activity prediction from experts display the importance of hurricane-related codes, hurricane-safety information and hurricane preparedness.

    FEMA Identifies Code Council as Earthquake Partner. The 2011 Directory of FEMA Earthquake Partners provides contact information for more than 300 organizations, including the Code Council, and individuals involved in earthquake mitigation at the state and federal levels as well as the non-governmental sector. The document is a free download.

    RSS is short for Really Simple Syndication. An RSS Feed is a file that contains frequently updated information, such as news headlines, blog posts and audio and video podcases. Many sites provide RSS feeds of their most recently-updated content, and a feed reader can subscribe to many feeds (thousands or even millions) at once, allowing you to view the most recent information from a variety of sources without visiting all of the originating web sites.
