GPP Information for NIH Staff and Investigators

The Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP) in the Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) is home to more than 450 graduate students at the NIH.  Approximately 100 new graduate students arrive each year.

All trainees performing dissertation research in the NIH IRP while enrolled in a Ph.D. or equivalent program are considered NIH GPP trainees. GPP trainees receive their doctoral degrees from the university in which they have matriculated, following completion of all degree requirements including dissertation research performed in whole, or part, within IRP laboratories. All GPP trainees may take advantage of all OITE and GPP services, including the OITE Career Services Center. They are also invited to appropriate OITE/GPP workshops and courses and should be fully integrated into training activities within their NIH Institute or Center.

Operationally, all students must be affiliated with one of the three types of GPP Partnerships:

  1. The individual agreement GPP partnership,
  2. OITE-administered Institutional GPP partnership, or
  3. Institute/Center (IC)-administered institutional GPP partnership.
