    CHICAGO – February 15, 2013. Governor Pat Quinn today joined President Obama at Hyde Park Academy to discuss the need to strengthen the middle class and prevent gun violence. The president laid out a bold agenda during his State of the Union address to drive job creation and economic growth, close the skills gap, raise the federal minimum wage and protect public safety. Governor Quinn laid out many proposals last week during his State of the State address consistent with the President’s agenda.

    CHICAGO – Governor Pat Quinn and the Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service are accepting nominations for the 4th Annual Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards.  These awards recognize individual volunteers through a statewide award program to highlight the importance of volunteerism and community service in the State of Illinois. For the first time, businesses that support service will also be recognized.

    SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) joined today by the Sangamon County Health Department, first-responders and local participants kicked off the 2013 Yellow Dot program. Due to the successful introduction of the program in 2011, the speakers highlighted the results of last year’s program and encouraged all residents of Illinois to take part in this simple, life-saving initiative.

    SPRINGFIELD – February 1, 2013. Governor Pat Quinn today called on every Illinois resident, school and business to participate in what’s being called the “largest earthquake drill in the history of the Midwest” on Thursday, February 7, at 10:15 a.m. The third annual Great Central U.S. ShakeOut is a nine-state emergency preparedness drill designed to encourage residents to think about what to do before, during and after an earthquake.
