Digitizing NEH's Early Grant Records: Our First Grant

We're embarking on this cool new project to digitize all our early grant records between 1965 (when the agency was founded) and 1980 (when we first began using a computer to process grants). I'd like to introduce you to Ann Sneesby-Koch, who is working right here in ODH HQ and helping us on this project. Ann has an MS in Information Science from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and an MA in Classical Studies from the University of Maryland. We're super-pleased to have her on board running this project for us. I've asked Ann to blog periodically on how her work is progressing. When done, you'll be able to search all NEH grants right back to our founding. Let me kick things off with just a bit of background on what we're doing.

Ithaka Releases NEH-Funded Report: "Supporting the Changing Research Practices of Historians"

Yesterday, Ithaka S&R released a new report, "Supporting the Changing Research Practices of Historians." This report was funded via an NEH Digital Humanities Start-Up Grant, HD-51320-11. As described by Ithaka:

This study, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, uncovers the needs of today’s historians and provides guidance for how research support providers can better serve them. We explore areas such as content discovery, information management, scholarly analysis, collaboration, library use, the writing process, professional interactions, and publication, among others.

2013 Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities Guidelines Now Available

The guidelines for the sixth round of the Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities (IATDH) program are now available. We’re looking for organizations and institutions interested in leading next year’s crop of institutes. This year's application deadline is March 7, 2013. Now is the time to begin preparing an application.

One Culture: “Urgent, Pointed, and Even Disruptive”

An independent council that studies critical issues for libraries and archives has concluded that the advanced computational techniques that are necessary to extract useful data from huge collections will require humanities scholars to fundamentally alter their definition of research.

2012 NEH Digital Humanities Project Directors Meeting – Open to Public

From 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on September 20th during 2012 NEH Office of Digital Humanities Project Directors at the National Endowment for the Humanities, the recent ODH grantees will give the public a sneak preview of 34 ground-breaking projects that apply cutting-edge technology to high quality research in the humanities. Project directors from the Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities, the Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants, and the new Digital Humanities Implementation Grants will be discussing their work.

2013 Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities Guidelines Now Available

Videos of 2012/2013 ODH Institute Directors

Interested in attending an ODH-funding Institute for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities? We're pleased to say that we now have videos from the project directors for each of the institutes that will be held in 2013. These videos were shot at the annual ODH Project Directors meeting, this year held on September 20, 2012. In each 3-minute lightning talk, the director(s) will describe the topics to be covered at the institute. Please note that information on how to apply to each institute will be available by mid-December, 2012. We hope you consider applying!
