State Plans For Aging Services
As the Baby Boom generation races toward traditional retirement age, the number of older adults in Virginia will reach 1.8 million by 2030 – more than double that population in 2000. Recognizing the coming “Age Wave,” the 2008 Virginia General Assembly expanded the duties of the Virginia Division for the Aging by mandating a four-year planning process for aging services in collaboration with a workgroup of aging advocates, educators, service providers, and state agency representatives. The initial 2009 Virginia’s Four-Year Plan for Aging Services: Across the Continuum — Across the Commonwealth presents a comprehensive picture of where we need to go to effectively meet the needs and leverage the human resources of Virginia’s rapidly aging population. The 2011 Biennial Progress Report serves as an addendum and reflects the steps that have been taken to move forward with the workgroup‘s recommendations. For more on Virginia's future, such as federally-mandated planning and work related to agency advisory boards, visit our Plans & Reports page.
