Welcome to Dugway Proving Ground

From the Commander

Colonel Estes Welcome to US Army Dugway Proving Ground! On behalf of all of us who work and live at Dugway, I would like to thank you for your interest in our installation and capabilities. We take tremendous pride in the work we do here at Dugway, and will do everything we can to ensure the testing, training or other services we provide are professional and first rate.

Dugway Proving Ground is closed to the public, large (about 800,000 acres), remote, and in the high-desert. Elevations range from 4,000 to more than 7,000 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures may exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit; winter temperatures can be -20 Fahrenheit.

Our remote location provides a unique testing and training environment. Our installation is free from encroachment, bounded by mountains on three sides, acoustically & electronically quiet with few spectrum issues and light pollution-free.

State-of the-art-facilities and experts are readily available to help customers with chemical or biological defense testing or training needs. Our expertise includes protection, detection, decontamination, as well as energetics and UAS testing and other areas that improve capabilities to defend our military and support homeland security. We pride ourselves on our flexibility and willingness to meet our customer’s needs and can tailor a testing or training plan to meet any requirement.

Environmental stewardship is a high priority at Dugway Proving Ground. We protect our rich natural resources in accordance with national environmental policies and an appreciation for the land. Magnificent sunrises and sunsets, wild horses (mustangs), pronghorn antelope, mule deer, coyotes, eagles and hawks are common and stirring sights.

If you will be traveling to Dugway, please ensure you view our safety video (the link can be found on this home page) before you arrive. The trip to Dugway from Salt Lake City can be dangerous year round. We are surrounded by open ranges so watch carefully for cattle, horses, bison, and wildlife while traveling here.

Our work force of over 2,000 military, government civilians and support contractors generally work four, 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday. Although we have ample assets to support our residents and work force, food choices are very limited on Sunday as only our AAFES Shoppette is open. If you plan arrive on a Sunday, you may wish to pick up some groceries, snacks and bottled water (for portability) in Salt Lake City or nearby Tooele. A full listing of facility hours can be found under the link on this home page.

For additional information, please contact the Public Affairs Office at (435) 831-3409 or (435) 831-2116 for assistance.
