Summary: The Ohio Crime Victim Assistance Coalition (CVAC) is comprised of eight (8) Partner Agencies and fourteen (14) Allied Community Organizations across the state of Ohio. Together these partners serve victims of crime in a myriad of ways, including representation in the enforcement of victims’ rights during the criminal justice process, providing civil legal services related to victimization, providing immigration assistance, and providing assistance for victims of identity theft and financial fraud. Agencies represented provide services in various geographic regions across Ohio and to various populations of victims, including the elderly, low income, the LGBT community, the disabled, women, immigrants, and those from Appalachia.

The CVAC and its partner agencies propose to 1) Continue to provide the services currently offered to victims; 2) Create a network of victim advocate agencies that meet on a regular basis to discuss victims’ needs; 3) Work a nationally recognized research group, Community Research Partners, to develop a comprehensive model to provide wraparound legal services to crime victims to meet all the legal needs that arise in connection with their victimization; and 4) Seek out a sustainable funding source in order to continue services after the life of the grant.

CVAC and its partners provide civil and criminal legal services, support and advocacy for victims of crime in Appalachian Ohio, Northeast Ohio and Central Ohio. Each partner provides services to targeted groups within a variety of demographic groups - low-income people, the LGBT community, elderly victims, sexual assault and domestic violence survivors and serve large numbers of residents who are new to Ohio in the Latino and Somali communities.
