What is Essential Tremor?
Also known as familial tremor, benign essential tremor or hereditary tremor, essential tremor (ET) is a progressive neurological condition that causes a rhythmic trembling of the hands, head, voice, legs or trunk. It is often confused with Parkinson’s disease and dystonia. Because of stereotypes and a lack of awareness, many people with ET never seek medical care though most would benefit from treatment. Learn more about ET.

The IETF Mission
The IETF funds research to find the cause of essential tremor (ET) that leads to treatments and a cure, increases awareness, and provides educational materials, tools, and support for healthcare providers, the public, and those affected by ET. Learn more about the IETF.

Tulips for Tremor Research Fundraiser Kicks Off
Only a few effective prescription medications are available to treat ET. Research funds are needed to find the cause of ET so better ET medications, treatment, diagnostic tools, and a cure can be developed. This year, the IETF has set a fundraising goal of $250,000 to fund more research. Learn more.

Essential Tremor vs. Parkinson's Disease: How Do They Differ?
Members of the IETF Medical Advisory Board created a simple reference guide that lists basic distinctions between ET and PD signs and symptoms. Visit https://www.essentialtremor.org/Free-ET-Publications to download this guide and other free materials.

Behind-the-scenes: Making the Essential Tremor Video by the IETF
A brief video of still images shot in studio and on location of cast and crew for the essential tremor awareness video produced by the IETF. A teaser of what's to come this fall - the final video.

Medical History Bracelet
The IETF announces the CARE Medical History Bracelet, an easy-to-use electronic medical bracelet. Created by GC Publishers, this device can be loaded and viewed from any computer, MAC or PC. Filling out the clipboard in the doctor’s office can be challenging, especially for people with essential tremor. A patient with ET (or a caregiver/family member) can create a personal health record using the CARE Medical History Bracelet. This record can then be printed out or viewed by healthcare providers and emergency personnel.

March is National Essential Tremor Awareness Month
National Essential Tremor Awareness Month provides you and the IETF with a key platform to educate the public about the condition, as well as raise much needed research funds. While 10 million people in the United States have essential tremor, the public still has very little awareness of ET. Learn how YOU can help the IETF to raise ET awareness and raise funds for research initiatives and education programs.

The Symbology of the IETF Logo
The centerpiece of the IETF logo is the Archimedes Spiral, which - when drawn by a patient - is used as a diagnostic tool for ET.
