The 2012 Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coins embody two of America’s most enduring icons - the Star-Spangled Banner flag and anthem. ChesapeakeCampaign

The story of Maryland's fight for the nation as the British roamed the Bay will be celebrated through the Chesapeake Campaign, a traveling festival featuring re-enactors, hands-on educational activities, performance, food, drink and interactive fun.  The Chesapeake Campaign will raise the visability of participating communities and sites around the Bay along the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail.

 

 

Star-Spangled Banner Byway

Follow a scenic, 100-mile trail that returns you to the waning days of the War of 1812, also known as "America's Second War of Independence." As fighting continued throughout the summer of 1814 (just a few months prior to the war's conclusion), Maryland's brave defenders not only stood strong against British invaders up and down the Chesapeake Bay, but also inspired the poem that would become our National Anthem.

 

 

Get Your Star-Spangled Banner!

in time for summer fly the Star-Spangled Banner flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the National Anthem following the all-night British bombardment of Fort McHenry in 1814. These flags are available through Maryland small business F.W. Haxel Co. Proceeds benefit three non-profit (501c3) organizations: The American Flag Foundation, Friends of Fort McHenry and The Star-Spangled Banner Flag House.

The bicentennial of The Star-Spangled Banner and the War of 1812 presents a tremendous opportunity to tell the story of Maryland's pivotal role in securing America's independence and giving our nation two of its most enduring icons - the anthem and the flag.

 

Sailabration Highlights

Star-Spangled Sailabration has come to a close and we bid farewell to the tall ships, Navy ships, Blue Angels, military personnel and visitors who came to Baltimore to commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. Make plans to visit again during the three-year commemoration, particularly in September 2014 for Star-Spangled Spectacular when we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner.
