Program Description

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a Federally funded energy assistance program. New York's grant is allocated among OTDA for a heating benefit program, the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal for weatherization activities, and the state Office for the Aging for outreach and referral activities. Applications are taken at all local departments of social services.

General Program Requirements

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of New York, you must need financial assistance for home energy costs and your household's annual income before taxes must be less than $24,360 if one person lives in the household; $31,848 if two people live in the household; $39,348 if three people live in the household; $46,836 if four people live in the household; $54,336 if five people live in the household; $61,824 if six people live in the household; $67,440 if seven people live in the household; and $73,056 if eight people live in the household. For larger households, add $5,616 for each additional person in the home.
