Program Description

The Food Assistance & Nutrition Program is a nutrition assistance program, which provides a Vision card (plastic debit card) to eligible persons for use in purchasing food from local grocery stores. Complete information regarding Food Assistance eligibility can be obtained by contacting your nearest Social and Rehabilitation Services Office or by calling 1-888-369-4777. Any single individual or household group whose income and resources are low and who meet certain basic program requirements can qualify. Food Assistance is available to all eligible persons regardless of race, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, political beliefs, or handicaps. There are specific eligibility requirements in Kansas and in every state. You must work with the Department of Social and Rehabilitations Services to apply and confirm your eligibility.

General Program Requirements

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Kansas and fall into one of two groups: (1) those with resources including a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001, or (2) those with resources including a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $3,251 who share their household with a person or persons age 60 and over, or with a person with a disability (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself). For either group, you must also have an annual household income of less than $14,160 if one person lives in the household; $19,128 if two people live in the household; $24,096 if three people live in the household; $29,064 if four people live in the household; $34,032 if five people live in the household; $38,988 if six people live in the household; $43,956 if seven people live in the household; or $48,924 if eight people live in the household. For larger households, add $4,968 for each additional person in the home.
