Authors: Freeman, Kathleen; Pitcher, Chris S. ; Robinson, Cara; Hayes, Michelle

    Publication Date: 2010

SAMHSA is encouraging PATH programs to use their local Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS) to collect and report PATH data. Many PATH providers are required to use HMIS for other programs within their agencies and some of them enter information about their PATH consumers in HMIS. When PATH providers use HMIS, it reduces reporting burden by eliminating dual record keeping and integrates PATH into the local service continuum. This helps local communities, HUD, and HHS understand how PATH help...

  • When Punishing Innocent Conduct Violates the Eighth Amendment: Applying the Robinson Doctrine to Homelessness and Other Contextual "Crimes"

    Authors: Weisberg, B.

Journal Name: The Journal of criminal law criminology

    Publication Date: 2005

This Comment will discuss the state of the forty-year-old constitutional principle (the so-called "Robinson doctrine") that criminally sanctioning a person's membership in a status violates the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution. (1) A corollary to the doctrine is that the state is free, at least under the Eighth Amendment, to punish conduct, so long as it is not punishing mere status. (2) Today, the Robinson doctrine is in some ways a dead ... (abstract from http://...

    Authors: Robinson, Catherine

Journal Name: Urban Policy and Research

    Publication Date: 2002

This paper explores research undertaken with young home(less) people in Sydney in which I specifically pursue ideas of home and belonging in the inner city. In a context in which young home(less) people are seen to 'lack' both identity and place, the responses of young people indicate the fragility and importance of relations of space and self. Source: Alexandria, VA: National Mental Health Association, 2002.

Organization: National Mental Health Association (NMHA)

    Publication Date: 2002

Research clearly shows that women are more likely than men to experience co-occurring mental health and substance abuse/addiction disorders (NIDA, 1998), thus women have an increased need for comprehensive treatment models. Because the majority of persons who suffer from addictive disorders, and hence those who seek treatment for substance abuse/addiction and co-occurring mental disorders are male and white, women of minority status are often unaware of, or unable to access, appropriate services. When...

    Organization: Crisis

    Publication Date: 2003

There are as many as 380,000 hidden homeless people in Great Britain, the majority of whom are sleeping on friends and families floors. Although their existence is widely acknowledged, their plight is rarely tackled. Part of the reason for this is the lack of knowledge surrounding the nature of their experiences and the extent of their vulnerability. This report represents the third instalment in a series of reports to be published by Crisis over the coming year intended to uncover the neglected and d...

    Authors: Hartman, Chester; Robinson, David

    Journal Name: Housing Policy Debate

    Publication Date: 2003

Although evictions are a major housing problem that disproportionally affects lower-income and minority tenants, no systematic data about evictions are collected on a local and national level. This article presents the scattered available data on the magnitude and impact of the problem, along with existing model efforts to reduce its incidence and impact. Creating a national database on eviction- how many, where, who, and why, and what happens to evictees- would be an important first step in focusing...

  • A Multilevel Decomposition Approach To Estimate the Role of Program Location and Neighborhood Disadvantage in Racial Disparities in Alcohol Treatment Completion

Authors: Jacobson, Jerry; Robinson, Paul; Bluthenthal, Ricky N.

Journal Name: Social Science and Medicine

    Publication Date: 2007

Large racial disparities in completion rates from substance abuse treatment programs in urban settings remain largely unexplained, although evidence is accumulating that neighborhood conditions may influence individual substance abuse patterns and consequences. Understanding racial disparities in alcohol treatment completion, in particular, is crucial to resolving health disparities because racial/ethnic minorities bear a disproportionate burden of alcohol-related health consequences. Patient records...

    Journal Name: Behavior Therapy

This longitudinal study examines consumer characteristics and types of intensive case management services that predict deceompensation. We examined the trajectories of 86 individuals in an intensive case management program after they attained the highest level o...

    Publication Date: 2008

The frequent co-occurrence of substance abuse disorders along with psychiatric disorders creates a number of complexities and needs in terms of long-term treatment for individuals. 12-step groups might provide unique mechanisms by which dually-diagnosed individuals can maintain their abstinence and improve their psychological functioning. This paper reviews the literature on outpatient community 12-step participation among dually-diagnosed individuals, and also focuses on individual factors that may i...

Journal Name: Journal of health care for the poor and underserved

    Publication Date: 2007

Research on violence against homeless women has focused mainly on individual rather than community-level risk factors. Using an ecological conceptual framework, we estimated the independent association of community characteristics with sexual and physical assault in a probability sample of 974 homeless women. Participants were interviewed at 66 assistance programs in Los Angeles County, California in 1997. Individual responses were linked to community-level data from land use files and the U.S. Census...

This community plan is at once a modest and an ambitious endeavor. It is modest because it does little to address the root causes of homelessness and housing insecurity. We address the need f...

    Authors: Dale E. McNiel, Ph. D. ; Renée L. Binder, M. D. ; Jo C. Robinson, M. A. ; McNiel, Dale E.

It looked at databases of 12,934 individuals who entered the San Francisco County jail system during the first 6 months of 2000.
