Program Description

Georgia Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is the monthly cash assistance program for poor families with children under age 18. The program goal is to provide necessary assistance to needy families with children on a temporary basis and provide parents with job preparation, work opportunities, enforcement of child support, and support services to enable them to become self-sufficient, and leave the program as soon as possible. These work activities help recipients gain the experience needed to find a job and become self-sufficient.

General Program Requirements

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Georgia, either pregnant or responsible for a child under 19 years of age, a U.S. national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident, have low or very low income, and be either under-employed (working for very low wages), unemployed or about to become unemployed.
