Colorado Couple Sentenced in Social Security Fraud Scam

DENVER — A Pueblo woman who stole Social Security payments intended for her mother who had died was ordered Thursday to repay the $22,000 she took illegally for three years.
Senior U.S. District Judge Lewis Babcock also sentenced Sarah Vanessa Lucero to be under court supervision for five years of probation.
He imposed an identical restitution order and sentence on Puebloan Jeremy Vigil, also known as Jeromy Vigil, described in court filings as Lucero's boyfriend.
The two defendants admitted the crime began in 2009 when Lucero's mother, Hope Rodriguez, died while she was a recipient of Social Security benefits.
