BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO WINE DECLARATIONS STILL REQUIRED

A number of importers have recently asked TTB whether a declaration of compliance for Brunello di Montalcino wine is still required.  The declaration requirements for Brunello di Montalcino wine issued June 23, 2008 in TTB Industry Circular 2008–2, remain in force. Pursuant to this TTB circular, all importers of Brunello di Montalcino wine have been required to have in their possession at the time of the wine’s release from United States Customs and Border Protection custody, a declaration from the Government of Italy.  The declaration must attest that the wine meets the requirements of the Brunello di Montalcino controlled appellation and that the wine is acceptable for sale as such in Italy.
