State Program Integrity Assessment (SPIA)

The State Program Integrity Assessment (SPIA) is the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) first national data collection on State Medicaid program integrity activities for the purposes of program evaluation and technical assistance support. For SPIA Fact Sheet, click on the "Downloads" below. CMS will use the data from the SPIA to develop descriptive reports for each State, identify areas to provide States with technical support and assistance, and assess States' performance over time.  The data are collected via an online data collection instrument which includes questions on State Medicaid integrity program characteristics; planning, prevention, detection, investigation and recovery activities; and technical assistance needs. For the SPIA Federal Fiscal Year 2008 Data Collection Instrument, click on the "Downloads" below.  For the SPIA Federal Fiscal Year 2008 Glossary (terms used in the instrument), click on the "Downloads" below.

SPIA Federal Fiscal Year Reports for each State and the District of Columbia are available by clicking on the "Downloads" below.  Complete Datasets and Executive Summaries for Federal Fiscal Years are also available in the "Downloads" below.
