Mural Contest Winners to Be Honored

The winners of the first Family and Youth Services Bureau mural contest, held earlier this year, will unveil their colorful new mural on November 15 at the 2011 National Runaway and Homeless Youth Grantee Conference, in Portland, OR.

The youth advisory council at Listening Ear, a runaway and homeless youth program in Mt. Pleasant, MI, won for their design of a large footprint that symbolizes the indelible mark their program has made on its community and on the lives of young people. Listening Ear and the contest’s four runners-up received Home Depot gift cards, which they have used to purchase the materials needed to paint their murals.

The contest aimed to help youth take ownership of their space and make their programs more inviting.
