New Podcast: A Youth Traveler Carves Her Own Path

tags:

In NCFY's latest podcast, we talk to Maggie, a 19-year-old who travels the country playing accordion on the street and living out of her van. Just don't call her "homeless;" Maggie rejects that word and its implications, and isn't looking for help from youth workers or shelters.
We also speak with Jai Somers, a street outreach worker in the Florida Keys, to see how she might reach out to someone like Maggie. Jai says it's essential not to impose our own definitions on another person's life situation, and that assistance from street outreach workers has to be on the youth's own terms.
