Program Description

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income pregnant and breastfeeding women, other new mothers up to one year postpartum, infants, children under six years of age, and elderly people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious United States Department of Agriculture commodity foods and providing basic nutrition education. The CSFP provides food and administrative funds to states to supplement the diets of these groups.

General Program Requirements

In order to qualify for this benefit program, applicants must be of low-income and one of the following: an infant under one year of age, a child under six years of age, a pregnant woman, a breastfeeding woman up to one year after giving birth, a new mother up to one year postpartum, or an elderly person 60 years of age or older. Individual states may also require applicants to meet certain nutritional risk eligibility criteria.
