Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Programs
Program Description
Funds must be used for the following program activities:- the writing, implementation and evaluation of a jurisdiction-wide childhood lead poisoning elimination plan;
- the writing, implementation, and evaluation of blood lead screening/case management plans;
- a jurisdiction-wide childhood lead surveillance program;
- primary prevention activities for families who live in pre-1978 housing (prioritized to pre-1950),pregnant women, women of child bearing age, families with young children and other at risk for lead exposure;
- a significant coordinated effort between organizations and agencies involved in activities for the reduction of lead-based paint and the development of a protection policy.
Funds may not be used for the following activities: research; reimbursable Medicaid services for Medicaid-eligible children; and medical care and treatment, or for environmental remediation of lead hazards. However, the applicant must provide a plan to ensure that these program activities are carried out and demonstrate their program's appropriate involvement with medical care, treatment and remediation efforts.
