Medicare/Medicaid/SCHIP
Description: The public sources for health insurance identified in the MEPS include Medicare, TRICARE, Medicaid, SCHIP, and other public hospital/physician coverage. In addition to the tables and publications provided below, data files with annual and monthly insurance indicators, experience with public plans, and more can be downloaded for further analyses.
Data tables: The MEPS-HC Summary Data Tables contain health insurance coverage categories on most tables. These tables include an insurance category of PUBLIC, which includes Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP along with other types of public health insurance. For the 65 and older population, these tables include insurance categories of Medicare only, Medicare and private, and Medicare and other public.
Analytic tools: With the MEPSNet/HC query tool, respondents can be identified as ever having Medicare or Medicaid coverage during the year. Refer to the MCDEV or MCREV variables within the Health Insurance Variable Group of the Variable Selection Query Tab.
Publications: Publications are listed in reverse chronological order (most recent first).
